Description
A large scale refurbishment project at Kings International College in Camberley, running for 10 months from August 2018 through to June 2019.
The works involved over 2,800 square metres of flat roofing replacement along with pitched roofing works, replacement of over 360 windows and doors, asbestos removals, replacement walkway canopies, external decorations, internal refurbishment including replacement lighting and ceilings along with extensive drainage repair works.
Key Challenges
Safety and minimal disruption within a live educational setting during substantial refurbishment works with over 30 operatives on site at any one time.
- Site Segregation: The works were carefully segregated to ensure operatives and non-construction personnel such as students never mixed. This was achieved through physical segregation (barriers, decanting of works areas and handover control) and temporal segregation (works outside of school opening times).
- Safety Inspections: Regular safety inspections were carried out to ensure the project did not impact on safety in any way. Any issues were always brought immediately to the attention of the site manager and rectified promptly, then documented and shared with other teams to ensure a lessons-learned approach.
- Careful housekeeping: We carefully ensured all works areas were clear of any sharps and tools prior to handover.
Completion on-time and on-budget.
- Regular cost reports kept the client apprised of the financial position of the project, and extras were clearly costed and documented to ensure no overruns.
